    School Philosophy

At Millwoods Christian School we offer a full range of academic courses, following the Alberta Program of Studies. An overview of the program of studies can be accessed online at www.education.gov.ab.ca

Our teachers work in collaborative teams to review required learning outcomes, build common assessments and select appropriate instructional practices to meet the needs of all learners. We regularly review data to see how well students are learning and put intervention plans in place as required. We are committed to working together so that all students learn.

At MCS we also want our students to have the opportunity to learn to know God and grow in their faith. As a Christian community of learners our goal is to challenge students to excel in character and leadership in order to serve their community in the name of Jesus Christ.

MCS provides spiritual training through daily teaching and application of the Bible. Each student is given opportunity to experience a relationship with God through prayer and praise. Millwoods Christian School offers education from an evangelical Christian perspective, based upon the belief that all require redemption through Jesus Christ, and that everyone who professes Christ as Saviour is to live according to principles found in the Bible.

    Our Christian Education Program Includes

    • morning prayer and scripture
    • weekly Bible classes
    • monthly scripture memory assignments
    • kindergarten to grade twelve service learning projects
    • weekly chapel services
    • spiritual focus days including fall retreats
    • integration of Biblical truth in all courses
    • International Service Trips for grades nine to twelve

Preparing Minds for Leadership, Hearts for Service

Welcome to Millwoods Christian School! As an alternative program with Edmonton Public Schools, Millwoods Christian offers education from a Christian perspective to students from kindergarten to grade twelve. We provide a fully integrated faith-based program for families who want an education that challenges students to grow in Christian character and faith.

At MCS, students are encouraged and supported to do their best, whether it be in academics, athletics, arts, or our Christian program. Our focus on learning provides students in all grades and subject areas with the tools they need to succeed. We approach all areas of education, whether core curriculum, complementary courses, or co-curricular activities from an evangelical Christian perspective and are committed to excellence in all we do.

Take a moment to browse through our site to see the many ways that Millwoods Christian works to develop the whole child.  Each component of our K-12 program assists us in achieving our goal of developing students who will be purposeful leaders in their community and citizens who will effectively impact their world.

Principal's Message

Greetings parents and caregivers,

Well, well, well; the end of another year-phew! Thanks to our community for your incredible support and positive connections with my staff. I appreciate your connecting with us on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. We are stronger when we take our diversity and create unity. I recently officiated a relative's funeral. One of her favorite passages was Psalm 139. I would encourage you to take a look at it and I trust it will encourage you as it did me. I am leaving you with some points to ponder:

  • Our elementary students raised over $22,000 for our new playground. The construction begins tomorrow. A new structure should be in place in the next couple of weeks. Good for our students
  • I am putting the image of our potential new building on SchoolZone and our school website for you to peruse. Please share this with as many people as possible. We want to believe God for His provision, but we know He works through people so please pray and talk about this project.
  • We are saying farewell to 4 teachers this year; Mrs. Muth grade 2, moving to George H. Luck Elementary School; Mr. Kidd, moving to Parkview School; Ms. Prins moving to J.D.Bracco School; and Mrs. Hughes moving to Institutional Services (Hospital Programs.) I wish them all the best and thank them for their exemplary service to our students.
  • Dianne Dachyshyn and Arlene Wolbaum have chosen to retire and we pray their new reality is all they hope it will be.
  • We are welcoming six new teachers. I still have two more left to hire but we are very encouraged with the level of expertise and spiritual emphasis our new teachers will add to our staff. I will send out the names in the fall once all details are finalized.
  • God has richly blessed us this year and I want to thank-you for your support in many aspects of school life.

Our school office will reopen to the public Monday, August 31. Remember, school does not start until September 8, 2015. As a young boy growing up in a small town, this was the norm, coming back after Labour Day. Nice to see this return this year.

Have a great summer, stay strong, enjoy your family together time and Lord willing we will see you in the fall. I and my staff will be out waving to you on September 8.
