    School Philosophy

At Millwoods Christian School we offer a full range of academic courses, following the Alberta Program of Studies. An overview of the program of studies can be accessed online at www.education.gov.ab.ca

Our teachers work in collaborative teams to review required learning outcomes, build common assessments and select appropriate instructional practices to meet the needs of all learners. We regularly review data to see how well students are learning and put intervention plans in place as required. We are committed to working together so that all students learn.

At MCS we also want our students to have the opportunity to learn to know God and grow in their faith. As a Christian community of learners our goal is to challenge students to excel in character and leadership in order to serve their community in the name of Jesus Christ.

MCS provides spiritual training through daily teaching and application of the Bible. Each student is given opportunity to experience a relationship with God through prayer and praise. Millwoods Christian School offers education from an evangelical Christian perspective, based upon the belief that all require redemption through Jesus Christ, and that everyone who professes Christ as Saviour is to live according to principles found in the Bible.

    Our Christian Education Program Includes

    • morning prayer and scripture
    • weekly Bible classes
    • monthly scripture memory assignments
    • kindergarten to grade twelve service learning projects
    • weekly chapel services
    • spiritual focus days including fall retreats
    • integration of Biblical truth in all courses
    • International Service Trips for grades nine to twelve

Welcome

Come Grow in Faith so You Can Change the World

Welcome to Millwoods Christian School! As an alternative program with Edmonton Public Schools, Millwoods Christian offers education from a Christian perspective to students from kindergarten to grade twelve. We provide a fully integrated faith-based program for families who want an education that challenges students to grow in Christian character and faith.

At MCS, students are encouraged and supported to do their best, whether it be in academics, athletics, arts, or our Christian program. Our focus on learning provides students in all grades and subject areas with the tools they need to succeed. We approach all areas of education, whether core curriculum, complementary courses, or co-curricular activities from an evangelical Christian perspective and are committed to excellence in all we do.

Take a moment to browse through our site to see the many ways that Millwoods Christian works to develop the whole child.  Each component of our K-12 program assists us in achieving our goal of developing students who will be purposeful leaders in their community and citizens who will effectively impact their world.

Principal's Message

Yearbook picture of Al LowrieWelcome to Millwoods Christian School. On behalf of our school community I want to thank you for choosing us as the place for your child. As I sit in my office and write this letter, I want you to know that I am filled with a sense of peace, joy and eager anticipation of the wonderful educational, spiritual and interpersonal connections that will be created during the upcoming year. Although I am at Millwoods Christian School as an educational leader to support and enhance MCS’s exemplary achievement record, I am thrilled at the opportunity to also be able to integrate my faith on a daily basis.

I am the father of four adult children; three daughters and one son. I graduated from the University of Alberta in 1980 and, even though I was certain when I left university that I would never return again, I am currently completing graduate work at the University of Alberta on a part-time basis. I have been with Edmonton Public School Board for 26 years, first as a Phys. Ed. Teacher and coach, and then in various other capacities including an Assistant Principal at Ellerslie Jr. High for three years and most recently as a Principal at Hardisty School for seven years.

As Principal, I want our community to be known by its love and acceptance of one another. If
your child is coming home complaining of being teased or not feeling safe for any reason, I need to know so it can be dealt with quickly and appropriately. We are not a perfect place, but together we can forge the type of safe loving community where the love of Christ is evident in all we do. Our caring and professional staff work hard to create an environment that supports such a community and matches our vision statement every day. It is our mandate to “Prepare Minds for Leadership and Hearts for Service.” As a K to 12 School, we believe we have much to offer.

At Millwoods Christian, we have a strong emphasis on academics, and are serious about our students’ Christian commitment and their desire to grow in Christian character and faith. Our weekly chapel services provide opportunities for worship, prayer, service, and instruction in God's word. Throughout the week, teachers and students take opportunities to pray with each other and challenge each other to grow spiritually. We encourage all students to put their faith to practice through volunteer service and a focus on leadership.

My staff and I want the very best for your child and will work tirelessly to ensure that their academic excellence, spiritual life application and interpersonal relationships are held to the highest level. We offer monthly academic updates to help you keep current with your child’s progress and one of our driving factors is to be a school that seeks continuous improvement. Staff meet weekly to discuss your child’s progress and work collaboratively to institute high levels of learning for all.

We use SchoolZone to communicate with parents daily and we highly value the importance of parental involvement in our community life. As we expect the best from each other, work consistently toward the same goals and pray for wisdom in all we do, the one who benefits the most will be your children.

Please contact the office at 780-462-2627 to obtain your parent login and password for Schoolzone. This will enable you to view homerooms, teacher e-mail contacts, schedules and school community events.

If you have any questions do not hesitate to speak with any of the MCS team.

Mr. Al Lowrie
