Come Grow in Faith so You Can Change the World
Welcome to Millwoods Christian School! As an alternative program with Edmonton Public Schools, Millwoods Christian offers education from a Christian perspective to students from kindergarten to grade twelve. We provide a fully integrated faith-based program for families who want an education that challenges students to grow in Christian character and faith.
At MCS, students are encouraged and supported to do their best, whether it be in academics, athletics, arts, or our Christian program. Our focus on learning provides students in all grades and subject areas with the tools they need to succeed. We approach all areas of education, whether core curriculum, complementary courses, or co-curricular activities from an evangelical Christian perspective and are committed to excellence in all we do.
Take a moment to browse through our site to see the many ways that Millwoods Christian works to develop the whole child. Each component of our K-12 program assists us in achieving our goal of developing students who will be purposeful leaders in their community and citizens who will effectively impact their world.
Greetings from Acting Principal
We have had a strong start and all of the teachers and staff are ready to provide your children with an excellent learning experience this year.
With the new school year comes new staff and students. We would like to welcome all of our new families and trust that you have already felt a warm welcome from the MCS community. We would also like to welcome our new teachers; Darin Werstiuk, Richelle Muth, Dianne Dachyshyn and Nadia Brownee. We are blessed to have people with such a vast array of talents and experience join our team. Another change for this fall is that our principal, Al Lowrie, will be on a study leave until January 2, 2015. During his absence I will be serving as acting principal. I am honoured to serve you in this capacity for our fall semester!
As a staff, we are committed to not only providing an excellent education for your children, but we will strive to do that within a Christian context. Our goal is to encourage and equip our students to strengthen their personal relationship with Jesus Christ and to practically apply their faith through the service of others. We will take every opportunity to help our students understand that God desires a deep relationship with us and that He wants to reveal His plan for our lives to us.
In speaking already with our 7-12 students at their first chapel, I personally challenged them to set goals in the areas of academics, spiritual growth and their commitment to serving others.
The Scripture passage that we are going to use as a theme this year comes from Colossians 3:23,24 which says, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving." It is a privilege to be able to invite God into our daily work at school!
As our year begins, I would like to remind all parents that our students learn best when parents and teachers work together to support the learning that is taking place. Please engage in the learning process with your children and let us know when you need extra assistance from us. A strong partnership between school and family results in a rich learning environment for all students!
